How to install an air conditioner cover? Step-by-step guide
Your GLOBALU air conditioning cover has just arrived. Good news: installation requires no special technical skills, no plumber, no electrician, and no specialized equipment. In less than 15 minutes, your outdoor unit disappears behind a designer cover, whether wall-mounted or floor-mounted.
This guide precisely reproduces the steps in the official GLOBALU installation instructions, enriched with practical advice for every situation: concrete facade, brick, rendering, breeze block, or ground installation on terrace and garden.
Before you start: essential checks
Take 5 minutes to perform these checks before opening your package. They’ll save you an interruption in the middle of the installation.
Check dimensions
The cover you have ordered must enclose your outdoor unit with at least 5 cm clearance on each side. Measure your unit (H × W × D) one last time and compare with the dimensions of your cover (indicated on the package label). If in doubt, consult our size guide.
Check location
- Blowing distance: at least 30 cm between your unit’s air discharge grille and the front of the cover – never block the front air flow.
- Accessibility: check that the front of the cover can be easily opened or removed to allow annual maintenance of your heat pump.
- Solidity of support: for wall mounting, make sure the wall can accommodate expansion plugs (hollow walls or lining: consult a professional).
- Floor surface: for floor mounting, the surface must be flat, stable and able to support the weight of the cover (8 to 22 kg depending on size).
Check package contents
Before starting, place all components on a flat surface and check that the packing list is complete. If any parts are missing or damaged, please contact our customer service department before starting installation.

Tools you’ll need on your side
| Tool | Is it compulsory? | For which step | Further details |
| Drill / screwdriver | Yes | Steps 1, 2, 5, 6 | Main tool for drilling and screwing |
| Ø 8 mm concrete drill bit | Yes (wall) | Step 6 – wall mounting | For drilling holes in concrete for wall plugs |
| Bubble level | Yes | Steps 5 and 6 – Alignment | Ensure elements are perfectly horizontal or vertical |
| Meter | Yes | Before you start – Measurements | Indispensable for taking the right dimensions |
| Marking pen | Yes | Marking drilling points | Used to mark hole locations for drilling |
| Flat wrench or screwdriver | Yes | Final screw tightening | Allows screws to be tightened by hand at the end of assembly |
| Stepladder (if top-mounted) | As required | Step 6 – high points | Used if assembly requires reaching heights |
4 – Drilling and fixing
- Hole drilling :
- Drill the previously marked locations with a Ø 8 mm concrete drill bit. The hole should be approximately 60 mm deep.
- Blow to remove dust from the holes.
- Insert dowels into drilled holes using a hammer
- Screw the screws into the dowels without tightening them completely.
- Wall-mounted version only:
- Reposition the cover against the wall, aligning the foot holes with the wall plugs.
- Use a spirit level to check that the cover is straight.
- Repeat the operation for the two lower feet, marking the locations, drilling, inserting the dowels and screwing in the screws.
5 – Final adjustment
- Place the cover over the installed screws
- Checking the level :
- Use a spirit level to check that the cover is perfectly straight. If necessary, adjust the position slightly before tightening the screws.
6 – Final check
- Once all fasteners have been tightened and adjustments made, check that the cover is securely fastened and that it stands straight.
- You’ve now completed the installation of your outdoor air conditioner cover.
Final inspection before commissioning
- Air flow: check that the unit’s fan is not obstructed. Switch on the heat pump and move your hand past the front of the fan cover. You should feel the air blowing freely.
- Stability: the cover does not vibrate when the unit rotates.
- Aesthetics: stand back about 5 metres and check the horizontal alignment and flatness of the front panel.
Specific features of floor mounting
If your outdoor unit is floor-mounted (on ground support, concrete blocks or anti-vibration feet), the installation of the cover is slightly different. It’s even simpler, since no holes need to be drilled in the facade.
Floor installation procedure
- Install the cover in the same way as for wall mounting (steps 1 to 4).
- Secure the feet to the rear uprights using the screws supplied, before final positioning.
- Position the cover around the unit and adjust the feet for perfect horizontal installation (check with a spirit level).
- To prevent accidental movement (wind, vibration), support the feet with concrete slabs or paving stones (not supplied), or secure them to the floor with concrete screws if your support allows.
- On wooden or tiled terraces, place anti-vibration pads (5 mm, rubber) under each foot to prevent vibrations from being transmitted to the unit.
Advice by wall type
Concrete or breeze-block wall
This is the most common and strongest support. Use a Ø 8 mm SDS drill bit and expansion plugs. The fixing will last for decades. Check that there are no cables or pipes before drilling.
Brick wall
Drill into the bricks, not into the mortar joints. Joints are less resistant. Use special brick plugs (Fisher SX type or equivalent) for better setting.
Facade with rendering or external thermal insulation (ITE)
Please note: plaster or external thermal insulation (rockwool, polystyrene) is not a load-bearing support. You need to drill through to the load-bearing wall behind the insulation. Use long, through-bolt anchors. In this case, floor fixing is often preferable.
Wooden facades (cladding, timber-frame houses)
Use wood screws (not the supplied concrete plugs). Screw into the supporting studs of the wood frame, not into the cladding alone. Pre-drill each hole with a smaller drill bit to avoid splitting the wood.
Balcony or terrace
Check the load capacity of your balcony before installing an XL or XXL cover. The weight of the cover is indicated on the data sheet for each model. If in doubt, opt for wall mounting directly in the load-bearing wall.
Mistakes to avoid
- Obstruct front air flow – always leave at least 30 cm between the fan and the front of the cover.
- Fixing into cavity walls without a suitable plug – standard expansion plugs will not hold in cavity walls or plasterboard. Use molly plugs or barrel bolts.
- Do not check the level – a tilted cover is immediately noticeable. Install the level in both width and depth directions before tightening.
- Scratch the paint during assembly – place the parts on a flat surface. A felt-tip eraser will not make up for scratches on powder-coated aluminum.
- Tighten assembly screws too much – beyond a certain force, the screw may break. Tighten by hand + final quarter-turn, not with a full-power screwdriver.
